The position is permanent and located at the Chair of Microbiology of Recycling Processes, Institute of Applied Microbiology, Department of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management. Salary will be based on pay grade 14 TV-H, provided the necessary qualifications are met. The position is offered through a cooperative agreement with the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for the Raw Materials and Chemical Industry (BG RCI) and the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI). The place of work is the Friedrich Loeffler Institute, Insel Riems, Greifswald.
Your tasks at a glance
• Scientific services in research and teaching in accordance with § 72 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG)
• Scientific evaluation and classification of new bacteria and their variants, in accordance with the requirements of the German Biological Agents Ordinance (Biostoffverordnung) and TRBA 450.
• Evaluation of human and vertebrate pathogenic bacteria based on extensive literature reviews and continuous evaluation of the latest scientific and technological findings according to the taxonomic guidelines of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes (ICSP)
• Establishment of independent research projects for the characterization of bacteria in cooperation between JLU and FLI, as well as activities up to biosafety level 3 in accordance with TRBA 100.
Your qualifications and skills
• Completed university degree and a completed doctorate in veterinary medicine, biology, or related natural sciences
• Extensive practical experience in bacteriological and/or virological laboratories, handling zoonotic pathogens, including biosafety level 3, with sound knowledge and experience in bacteriological, virological, and molecular biological methods, including
• Experience in the cultivation, genetic (e.g., NGS), and immunological (e.g., production of bacterial and viral antigens and monoclonal antibodies) characterization of bacteria
• Experience in the bioinformatic analysis of genome sequences using standard software is desirable
• Excellent German and English skills
