Website University of Göttingen
Main Tasks:
You will mine large genotypic and phenotypic datasets and apply biometric approaches to study genotype by environment interactions for diseases and other agronomic traits in wheat. Develop genomic selection models for the traits and validate the models on the obtained progenies. The genetic material to be used in the project is obtained both from genebank and the breeding material. You will thus have the unique opportunity to be involved in a project in close collaboration with the plant breeders and thus gain first-hand experience of benefits and limitations of genomic selection in a real-world case study.
Required Qualifications:
• A doctoral degree in Crop Science, Agricultural or Environmental Sciences, Plant Pathology, Systems Biology, or a related field
• Strong interest in quantitative genetics and the interaction between genetics, plant physiology, environment, and pests/diseases.
• Solid skills in programming and data analysis (eg, R, Python).
• Experience with process-based models, genomic prediction models (GP), experimental datasets, or parameter estimation is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and international team.
• Very good command of English, both written and spoken
