YOUR TASKS
Collaboration in the microbiological and molecular biological laboratory of the phytopathology department:
Isolation and cultivation of phytopathogenic microorganisms, especially fungi. Sampling, sample preparation, media preparation, transfer and renewal of strains for new cultures, microscopy where necessary.
• Identification of microorganisms by PCR and sequencing: DNA preparation, PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, sample preparation.
• Diagnosis of microorganisms by specific PCR or real-time PCR: Preparation of DNA from plants, PCR or real-time PCR.
• Conducting pathogenicity tests with newly identified pathogens / resistance tests with different varieties of cultivated plants: cultivation of the plants and propagation of the pathogens, inoculation using various methods, incubation, evaluation.
• Training and supervision of students in the laboratory.
• Preparation and participation in a laboratory internship: Preparation of all materials, assistance with the demonstration of practical experimental steps.
• General tasks: Supervision and maintenance of various laboratory equipment.
YOUR PROFILE
• Completed training as a biological-technical assistant or agricultural-technical assistant. Applications with comparable qualifications, for example, a degree in biology, agricultural biology, or agricultural sciences (Bachelor’s) with professional experience, are also welcome.
• Experience in handling nucleic acids, PCR, real-time PCR
• Experience in handling microorganisms, cultivating fungi and bacteria
• Experience in growing and caring for plants in a greenhouse
Experience with isolating microorganisms from environmental samples and inoculating plants with microorganisms is advantageous.
• Good organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to coordinate different work requirements
• Independent, structured and meticulous work style with a high sense of responsibility
• Teamwork skills and willingness to flexibly support various work areas
