Website Karolinska Institutet
Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?
Do you want to be part of developing next-generation models to understand the development, function and diseases of the skeleton and joints? At the Growth and Cartilage Biology Group at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM), Karolinska Institutet, we are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with solid experience in advanced in vitro studies of bone and cartilage cells. You will be part of an international and dynamic research environment with strong national and international collaborations and the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in skeletal biology and regenerative medicine.
Your role
Our research aims to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate skeletal growth, cartilage development and tissue homeostasis, as well as how these processes are affected in genetic skeletal diseases and degenerative joint diseases.
As a postdoctoral fellow, you will have a leading role in projects that focus on:
Development and use of advanced in vitro models for bone and cartilage formation. Studies of stem cell differentiation into chondrocytes and osteoblasts. Analysis of mechanotransduction and cellular mechanosensing in skeletal and cartilage tissue. Establishment and optimization of 2D and 3D cell culture systems, organoid models and biomaterial-based models. Molecular and cellular characterization using modern methods in cell biology, molecular biology and omics technologies. Planning, implementation, analysis and presentation of research results and supervision of students and junior researchers.
You are expected to run your own research projects while working closely with other members of the research group and our national and international partners.
Who are you?
To be employed as a postdoctoral researcher, a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree is required. The degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made. It is an advantage if the doctoral degree has been completed within the last three years.
We are looking for a highly motivated and independent researcher with:
Claim
- Doctoral degree in cell biology, developmental biology, tissue engineering, biomedicine or a related field.
- Documented experience in culturing and characterizing bone and/or cartilage cells.
- Extensive experience with in vitro models of cell differentiation.
- Documented experience in advanced cell biology and molecular biology methods.
- Scientific productivity documented through publications in international journals.
- Very good ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Meritorious
- Experience in research on mechanosensing, mechanotransduction or biomechanical regulation of cell function.
- Experience with 3D cell cultures, organoids or biomaterial-based model systems.
- Experience with analytical methods such as RNA sequencing, single-cell technologies or proteomics.
- Experience in microscopy, image analysis and quantitative cellular analyses.
- Experience in supervising students or younger researchers.
Great emphasis will be placed on scientific proficiency, independence, problem-solving skills and collaboration skills.
What do we offer?
A creative, international, inspiring environment filled with expertise and curiosity. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading medical universities. Here we conduct successful medical research and have the largest range of medical education in Sweden. At KI you will meet researchers with different research areas working together. It is this cross-border collaboration that contributes to KI’s world-leading position in research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the healthcare sector is important for creating education and research of the highest quality. As a university, Karolinska Institutet is also a government agency. This means that as an employee you receive good benefits through our collective agreement.
