Postdoctoral Fellow position in functional precision medicine and investigating therapeutic vulnerabilities in hematological malignancies

Website Karolinska Institutet

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Are you a highly ambitious and motivated individual with a passion for functional precision medicine? We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher to join our dynamic team. You will be a part of the Erkers team in the Kallioniemi research group. Our group focuses on optimizing treatments for individual cancer patients based functional drug testing and molecular profiling. Our goal is to develop systems biology frameworks to match targeted therapies and drug combinations using omics- profiling and drug testing. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects in the field of medical science.

Your work will be carried out at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab), which is a leading national infrastructure for next-generation life science research in Sweden. SciLifeLab is jointly operated by the four host universities: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University, and it has facilities in four other universities across Sweden. There are over 1000 people working at SciLifeLab, either in research groups or in the infrastructure facilities, most of them in the KI Solna campus and in Uppsala. This position resides at the Solna campus.

Your mission

The successful candidate will contribute to research projects developing functional precision medicine approaches and investigating therapeutic vulnerabilities in hematological malignancies. The work combines high-parametric experimental data generation with computational analysis of high-dimensional functional and molecular datasets. The postdoctoral researcher will work in close collaboration with both experimental and computational scientists within an interdisciplinary team, and will contribute to manuscript preparation and collaborative projects with national and international partners.

Your mission

Your mission is to be part and help executing projects in a leading research environment for functional precision medicine research.

  • Planning, executing, and analyzing experimental workflows including high-throughput drug sensitivity testing, high-parametric single-cell methodologies, cell culture, and handling of primary patient samples
  • Analysis of multi-omics datasets including high-throughput drug testing, transcriptomic, proteomic, and epigenomic data. Statistical modeling and data-driven approaches for characterizing treatment-associated molecular and functional features
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioinformatics and medical science to bring novel methodologies to the team.
  • Disseminate results in scientific publications. Present the work in group meetings, internally at KI, and at scientific conferences
  • Collaboration with experimental and clinical researchers within the group and external partners
  • Supervision of MSc or PhD students

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as pharmaceutical sciences, medical sciences, biological sciences, or data science. You should not have earnt your Ph.D. degree earlier than 3 years from the start date of the position.
  • Strong expertise of experimentation and analysis of in high-throughput assays, including drug sensitivity testing, flow cytometry, and high-parametric single cell methodologies.
  • Documented expertise in cell culturing techniques and primary patient sample handling
  • Ability to analyze high-parametric data in R and/or Python
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Proven track record publishing scientific publications as first author.

Meritorious:

  • Expertise in single-cell spatial proteomics
  • Background in experimental hematology or precision medicine, or related fields
  • Successful supervision of MSc students
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments
  • Swedish language skills given regular interaction with clinical collaborators
  • Track record of high-impact scientific publications in relevant fields
