Academic staff member position in teaching in the field of subject-specific didactics of biology

The successful candidate will assume key responsibilities in the subject-specific didactics training of student teachers in biology, with a strong focus on research-oriented teacher education. The position also offers excellent opportunities for independent subject-specific didactics research, which is explicitly supported. Furthermore, the position will make a significant contribution to the structural integration and further development of biology didactics within the faculty.

Your tasks:

  • Conception and implementation of courses in the subject-specific didactics of biology in teacher training programs (Bachelor and Master)
  • Implementation of high-quality, theory- and practice-oriented teaching in teacher education
  • Development and implementation of research-oriented subject-specific didactics training for teacher trainees, especially in STEM fields (including in cooperation with representatives of STEM subjects at the university and the teacher training college)
  • Development and establishment of subject-specific didactics research at the faculty (e.g. empirical teaching and learning research, classroom research, competence development in biology teaching)
  • Participation in the further development of teacher training programs and in networking with schools and teacher training seminars.
  • Cooperation with the Heidelberg School of Education (HSE), particularly within the framework of interdisciplinary projects in teacher education and STEM didactics.
  • Networking with schools and extracurricular educational partners within the framework of teacher training
  • Participation in subject-specific didactics and STEM-related research networks, possibly including involvement in the acquisition of third-party funding.

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree in biology
  • PhD, preferably in biology or biology didactics
  • Proven expertise in the didactics of biology as well as in empirical educational research
  • Proven experience in university teaching, ideally in teacher training programs
  • Strong interest in subject-specific didactics research and the publication of subject-specific didactics research results
  • Willingness to participate in third-party funded projects
  • Excellent German skills (C2) in spoken and written form

Desired qualifications:

  • Practical teaching experience in biology
  • Experience with innovative teaching and learning formats, possibly also in a STEM context
  • Proven publication and research activity in biology education
  • Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, especially in the STEM context
  • Independent, structured work style as well as strong communication and teamwork skills
