Your role
The position includes teaching at undergraduate and graduate level, mainly within the medical program, the master’s program in translational physiology and pharmacology, and independent courses in physiology and pharmacology. The teaching includes lectures, group teaching and laboratory work, supervision of national and international students, course responsibility and examination. Furthermore, active participation in pedagogical development work is included. The position also means being an important part of a creative and ambitious research group, where you contribute independently to the group’s research projects.
Subject description
Areas that the position mainly concerns are the regulation of cardiovascular, muscular, renal and metabolic systems in health and disease.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for employment as an assistant lecturer, you must have demonstrated scientific proficiency and have completed a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant to the duties and, in addition to your doctoral thesis, have published at least five peer-reviewed original scientific publications (at least one as first or last author). You must also have demonstrated excellent pedagogical experience and proficiency as well as good pedagogical independence. You must also have completed 10 weeks of higher education teaching training according to the Swedish University Association’s recommendations for qualifying higher education teaching training or otherwise have acquired equivalent knowledge.
In addition, you should have practical experience in developing courses and pedagogical materials in education at undergraduate and graduate levels and possess in-depth subject knowledge in physiology and pharmacology. We are looking for a person who is motivated to work independently, takes initiative and responsibility, has good administrative skills and the ability to deliver assignments within set deadlines.
The position requires very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as teaching is conducted in both languages. The work also requires good teamwork skills and a positive attitude. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
Assessment criteria
When employed as an assistant lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the instructions for the employment regulations apply in relation to the established employment profile.
The applicant must have:
- Demonstrated extensive pedagogical experience from different teaching formats and for different groups at undergraduate and advanced levels
- Experience in individual supervision of degree theses at undergraduate and graduate level
- Independently responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating teaching and examination at undergraduate and advanced level to a significant extent and with documented high quality
- Experience in educational management assignments, for example as a course manager or examiner at undergraduate and graduate levels
- Implemented pedagogical development work that resulted in improved education
- Good experience in student-activating teaching such as TBL (team-based learning)
It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has demonstrated
- Good documented scientific experience in research with a focus on cardiovascular, muscular, renal and metabolic systems, including protein homeostasis or redox balance and how these are regulated in health and disease
- Experience in writing grant applications
- Experience in writing ethics applications for animal experimental and/or human research studies
